Getting a good night’s sleep helps to keep your mind and body healthy. Most adults need 7-8 hours of sleep to feel rested and alert for the next day. Here are a few healthy foods and drinks to help you fall asleep:
Bananas are high in potassium to calm restless legs and prevent leg cramps. Bananas also have magnesium to help relax muscles and nerves.
Salmon provides a good dose of omega-3 fatty acids which have been shown to reduce stress hormones and promote restfulness.
Almonds contain magnesium to help you sleep better. They also provide protein, which can help you maintain a stable blood sugar level while you’re sleeping.
Cereal made from whole-grain with low-sugar helps to produce an amino acid that causes sleepiness called tryptophan.
Teas such as green or chamomile have sleep-inducing components such as theanine that help to promote sleep.
Eggs are a high-protein snack that helps to stabilize blood-sugar levels while you’re sleeping.
Getting the right amount of sleep helps to improve your mood, memory, health, wellness and more. Start an evening routine to prepare your mind and body to relax and sleep soundly with activities such as: stretching, reading and limiting screen time from television and backlit devices. Commit to getting a full night’s rest for a healthy and productive life.
